Position Description

NATURE OF THE WORK

As Data Processing Technician (Software Maintenance and Support Technician), your primary responsibility will consist in ensuring the effective operations of various student information and administrative systems by maintaining the pertinent applications, databases and servers up to date. You will also assist in the development of programs, implementation of systems, modification of in-house applications, maintenance of servers and repair of complicated breakdowns. You will therefore be required to:

  • Manage application installations and configure systems according to procedures;
  • Provide technical support to users on a variety of systems and software tools;
  • Create best practice procedures to increase effectiveness of support;
  • Document interventions and resolutions for future reference;
  • Conduct and participate in training sessions; 
  • Produce, modify and standardize reports for various department projects;
  • Test and adapt software to make sure it is compatible with existing systems and meets user needs;
  • Program and modify scripts using appropriate scripting languages in order to meet the specific needs of users;
  • Act as a resource person for complicated breakdowns of equipment and software, particularly with regard to application installations and configurations,
  • If need be, they perform any other related duty.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Hold a Diploma of College Studies in Computer Science Technology or in an appropriate specialty for the class of employment or a diploma or an attestation of studies recognized as equivalent by the competent authority;
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent knowledge of French and English, spoken and written;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite; Knowledge of Office 365; General knowledge of enterprise security concepts
  • Basic knowledge of Batch Scripting, VB Scripting, and PowerShell;
  • Basic knowledge of reporting tools, SQL Queries, Crystal Reports, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access;
  • Basic technical knowledge of Microsoft environments (Windows 10, Servers 2012R2/2016/2022, Active Directory);
  • Ability to work flexible hours;
  • A valid driver’s license and a vehicle to travel to the schools and centres of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board;
  • Basic knowledge of GRICS systems, most notably, GPI, JADE, TOSCA, MOZAЇK PORTAL, PAIE&GRH, DOFIN, ACHAT, will be considered an asset
