nATURE OF THE WORK
The psychoeducator encompasses the responsibility for carrying out prevention and screening activities, providing assistance and guidance as well as evaluating the adaptation difficulties and adaptive skills of students experiencing or likely to experience social maladjustments, as well as determining and implementing a psychoeducational intervention plan in order to create conditions to foster the students’ optimal adaptation, restore and develop their adaptive skills and autonomy in interaction with their environment. In addition to providing advice and support to school resources and parents, you will be required to:
- Participate in developing and implementing psychoeducational services that meet the academic and administrative requirements of both the educational institutions and the school board;
- Contribute to the screening and identification of students experiencing problems, using an approach focusing on prevention and intervention; plan and conduct evaluations of students’ adaptation difficulties and adaptive skills;
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to draw up and review a student’s individualized education plan by including an action plan in the plan, if necessary; participate in defining intervention objectives and means; work with other team members to ensure concerted and coordinated interventions and assess the achievement of objectives;
- Work with teachers to develop and implement strategies and projects aimed at helping students who are experiencing or who are likely to experience social maladjustments;
- Provide assistance and advice to schools and parents of students with social maladjustments;
- Plan, organize and conduct, in conjunction with other schools or external resources, activities with classes or groups of students experiencing common difficulties or specific problems;
- Design, adapt or prepare materials based on the needs and abilities of students experiencing social maladjustments;
- Help, when called upon, defuse crisis or emergency situations and to propose solutions.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Be a member of the Ordre des psychoéducateurs et psychoéducatrices du Québec.
- Master the English language and have the ability to function effectively in French.
- Have a valid driver’s license to travel to all schools to provide in-person services.
